DAVID L. JAMISON

About
David L. Jamison
Marriage & Family Therapist

I am a long-time resident in Rochester, MN, and have always had a strong interest in helping people.

I earned a Master of Divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, and a Master of Science degree in counseling from Winona State University in Winona, MN. I was an active clergyman for 20 years. One of those years was as Resident Chaplain at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Upon completion of my MS degree in counseling, I completed an internship at a community counseling center in Rochester under the supervision of Dr. Gravett, MD.

In September of 1992, I resigned as Pastor of Care at a local church and became a full-time marriage therapist. I had already earned my license as a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).

What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?

According to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, marriage and family therapists like David L. Jamison are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems and are licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples, and family systems.

Marriage and family therapists broaden the traditional emphasis on the individual to attend to the nature and role of individuals in relationships, taking a holistic approach and focusing on the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families.

Research studies show that after receiving counseling, almost 90 percent of clients report an improvement in their emotional health, and nearly two-thirds report an improvement in their physical health. More than 75 percent who receive marriage, couples, or family counseling report an improvement in their relationships.
